French Tax Issues

Your sale or purchase will raise tax issues and we are able to give general advice on all relevant taxes such as:-

French Wealth Tax
If you are not resident in France then wealth tax will be charged if your French assets exceed 760,000 euros. Initially the rate of tax will be 0.55% on assets valued between 760,000 euros and 1,220,000 euros. Rates increase in bands thereafter.

French Capital Gains Tax
For non French residents the rate of Capital Gains Tax is 16% charged on the gain accruing on disposal of French assets. However, if you have owned your property in France for more than 15 years then the gain is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

French Inheritance Tax
The tax rates and available exemptions vary depending on the degree of relationship between the deceased and the beneficiary.

We can also advise on issues of domicile and how this impacts on death duties chargeable in France and the UK.

If detailed tax planning is required which we feel is beyond the service we provide then we will recommend an English speaking French based accountant or a tax specialist lawyer.
